In our communities
The
Cardinal Health Foundation is focused on making healthcare safer and communities healthy. Our funding targeted at preventing the misuse of prescription drugs reaches all ages.
For younger children and their families - To promote understanding of this important topic at the most basic level, we are partnering with COSI, a regional science center in Central Ohio, to promote the safe use of medications through hands-on workshops for preschoolers, take home materials for parents, e-newsletters for teachers and other curriculum.
For teenagers - We are partnering with the Wexner Center for the Arts, in Columbus, Ohio to produce a student-created public service announcement (PSA) with a teen-to-teen message about prescription drug abuse. By the end of 2009, we plan to share this PSA and additional curriculum with schools, after school programs, the media and other venues.
For those with limited incomes - We partner with local clinics and provide funding to help grow a broad base of understanding about healthcare needs and the opportunities available to receive care.
For the elderly - We partner with Life Care Alliance and the Ohio State University College of Pharmacy through a visiting pharmacist program. Through one-on-one meetings and brown-bag sessions at senior centers, we help the elderly better understand their medications and reduce the chance that prescription medications and other pharmaceuticals are being misused.
For professionals - We support a research award through the American Society of Health System Pharmacists. We contribute to professional education through grants to the Institute for Safe Medication Practices and the Boston University Pharmacy Leadership Institute, internships at a variety of universities throughout the US and partnership with the Ohio State University College of Pharmacy.
