Cardinal Health Chamber Orchestra

The Cardinal Health Chamber Orchestra is a non-profit volunteer orchestra made up of Cardinal Health employees, members from the community, and surrounding businesses. The orchestra's purpose is to take live concert hall-style music to those that are unable to attend live performances, such as retirement communities, assisted care and Alzheimer care facilities. They also perform at elementary schools, planting the seed of music in hopes that it will grow into a life-long appreciation.

Frequently Asked Questions

I am a musician interested in joining the orchestra. What do I do?
Contact founder Ron Reich or conductor Derek Harrah

Are there any requirements for joining the orchestra?
The orchestra is comprised of musicians of all ages and levels of ability. If you are a music lover interested in providing a valuable service for your community, then you are welcome in our group!

I am not a Cardinal Health employee. Can I still participate?
Yes. The orchestra contains many non-Cardinal musicians from the community and surrounding businesses.

How often does the orchestra perform?
The orchestra has 2 seasons per year, Spring and Winter, with 7-8 performances per season.

When are the performances?
Typically, performances take place during the lunch hour, 1-2 times per week during May and December. See the Performance Schedule for more information on the upcoming season.

I can’t make all of those performances. Can I still play?
Absolutely.

How long does it take the orchestra to put a program together?
8-10 weeks. Please check the Rehearsal Schedule for rehearsal dates, times and locations.

What instruments are you most in need of currently?
Strings (particularly string bass and viola), bassoon and french horn.

I would like to join the orchestra but you already seem to have enough of the instrument I play.
No problem; backup musicians are always needed to fill in when someone has a schedule conflict.

Will the orchestra be using vocalists?
Yes, during the holiday performances.

To participate with the choir, when should I contact the orchestra?
Now would be fine, since planning takes place 6-12 months in advance.

Is there anything that I can do to help out besides playing an instrument?

  • help with car pooling situations, especially if you have a van
  • setup and teardown tasks before and after a performance
  • documenting the driving directions so that the 50+ musicians show up at the same place on the same day and hopefully the same time
  • and more…

I enjoy watching the orchestra perform and appreciate what they do for the community. I would like to support the arts, can you recommend any local organizations?
Yes. The orchestra, Women in Music-Columbus, has been assisting Cardinal Health’s Orchestra from the beginning.
