Supplier initiatives
We seek to proactively source products and services that promote the development of small minority- and women-owned businesses, expand our supplier base to reflect a diverse marketplace, and maintain quality and cost of service.

Our process is a collaborative one and involves evaluating our markets, business conditions and quality of suppliers before setting annual goals that are measured quarterly. Cardinal Health's goals are based on the procurement outlook for the company rather than a percent of purchases. We can and do target certain commodities for minority- and women-owned businesses.

Team structure & reporting
Supplier Diversity reports to the Corporate Strategic Sourcing team. A close reporting relationship provides more opportunities to collaborate on the success of diversity inclusion. While Strategic Sourcing has committed to include diverse suppliers in upcoming bids, the Supplier Diversity team has guaranteed that it will seek and screen quality, diverse suppliers who are highly capable of doing business with Cardinal Health on a corporate level.

Using Strategic Sourcing’s seven-step process, the Supplier Diversity team works with the Strategic Sourcing team to understand the requirements for each bid and spend category, as well as source companies that can meet those requirements for inclusion on bids. The alignment of these two teams is made possible by matching an individual from Supplier Diversity with a Strategic Sourcing representative for specific spend categories. Supplier Diversity representatives play an active role on the Sourcing team for items that go out for bid.
