Situational Analysis
- Define your disease state populations in the surrounding community
- Determine the growth of these populations by defining the number of new cases with oncology, cardiology, and neurology indications diagnosed annually where PET has been approved for reimbursement
- Identify any local practices for follow up studies
- Segment your customer base. Customer segmentation may identify new groups you have not worked with previously. Clear and consistent communication with these new groups as well as providing a good patient experience will be the keys to establishing and growing your referrals and your practice.
- Primary sources: Oncologists, Thoracic Surgeons, Pulmonologists, Neurologists, Cardiologists
- Secondary sources – Internists, General/Family practitioners, OB/GYN, Psychologists, Geriatricians
- Identify key institutions in the area – especially competitors
- Identify local payers – Medicare/Medicaid and private payers
- Conduct a SWOT analysis: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats
