Situational Analysis
  • Define your disease state populations in the surrounding community
    • Determine the growth of these populations by defining the number of new cases with oncology, cardiology, and neurology indications diagnosed annually where PET has been approved for reimbursement
  • Identify any local practices for follow up studies
  • Segment your customer base.  Customer segmentation may identify new groups you have not worked with previously.  Clear and consistent communication with these new groups as well as providing a good patient experience will be the keys to establishing and growing your referrals and your practice.
    • Primary sources: Oncologists, Thoracic Surgeons, Pulmonologists, Neurologists, Cardiologists
    • Secondary sources – Internists, General/Family practitioners, OB/GYN, Psychologists, Geriatricians
  • Identify key institutions in the area – especially competitors
  • Identify local payers – Medicare/Medicaid and private payers
  • Conduct a SWOT analysis: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats
