May 1, 2009 — As a critical link in the global health care community, Cardinal Health continues to closely monitor the swine influenza A(H1N1) situation. We are focused on the safety of our employees and ensuring our customers are equipped with the supplies they need.

To ensure the safety and integrity of the supply chain, Cardinal Health has implemented our pre-established business continuity and pandemic contingency plans, working in accordance with guidelines set by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

We are working with our suppliers to address the demand for antiviral medications, masks, gloves, gowns and hand sanitizers. Cardinal Health is also prepared to increase production of its ventilator products as necessary to respond to any potential increase in demand for respiratory equipment. In addition, our suppliers are working with the CDC and HHS to direct medicines where they are most needed. During times of increased demand, Cardinal Health implements a fair share allocation process to prevent product hoarding and ensure all customers have access to adequate supplies of the product it has available.

Cardinal Health is also focused on ensuring employees’ health and safety. Our employees – especially those in or around areas where the strain has surfaced – are being equipped with the guidance and information they need to minimize the risk of exposure.

The collaboration of all partners in the health care supply chain is necessary to provide the critical products to combat and prevent the spread of A(H1N1) influenza. Cardinal Health will continue to work with suppliers, customers and government agencies to provide available product to its customers.
