the following criteria:
| > |

Accounting or finance degree or a minimum of nine hours of
accounting coursework (other business degrees will be considered

| > |

| > |
Willingness to relocate during the two-year program. |
How many people usually apply to the program? How are
participants selected?
Every recruiting season, approximately 700 people submit resumes
to be considered for a position with the Financial Development
Program. Of those submissions, about 300 people are given the
opportunity to go through the formal interview and application
process.
The standard interview process consists of first-round
interviews on campus with second-round interviews conducted at
the Cardinal
Health corporate headquarters in Dublin, Ohio.
What if I do not
attend a campus at which the Cardinal Health Financial Development
program recruits?
For candidates who do not attend a campus at which the Cardinal
Health Financial Development Program recruits, an initial phone
interview is conducted in place of the on-campus interview. The
remainder of the interview process continues in the same manner. See
the Program requirements and selection process section for
more information.
What is the timeline for the selection process?
Candidates are notified of interview results within two weeks
of their interview date for both first and second round
interviews.
Rotation and relocation
How
long does the Financial Development Program last? How many
rotations are available?
The program typically lasts two years although it can be
as short as 18 months. There are currently over 60 rotations
from which
to choose.
See the Rotation opportunities section for more information.
How does rotation preferencing work? What happens
if multiple people prefer the same rotation?
Participants will analyze their current portfolio of skill sets
and identify their strengths and developmental needs. They will
then review the rotation overviews and determine the rotations
that will allow them to utilize their strengths while also providing
the opportunity to improve the areas identified as developmental
needs. The participant’s desired exposure to the financial
reporting segments (Pharmaceutical Distribution and Provider Services,
Medical Products and Services, Automation and Information Services,
and Pharmaceutical Technologies and Services) should also be considered
at this time. The participant will submit three rotation preferences
with reasons why the rotations are chosen to the program management
team. The Financial Development Program management team matches
the participant’s skill sets, rotational preference and performance
within the program to the business’s needs in order to develop
future rotational assignments.
Is it mandatory to relocate while in the program?
The goal of the Financial Development Program is to expose new
analysts to different Cardinal Health business segments, allowing
them to develop multiple skill sets and to gain a solid understanding
of the company’s operations. To accomplish this, you are
expected to spend one rotation in a location outside of Dublin,
Ohio, and McGaw Park, Ill., the two locations at which new hires
typically start their careers.
Does Cardinal Health provide program participants
with relocation assistance?
Cardinal Health contracts with a moving
company that
will relocate program participants. This moving company complies
with the relocation guidelines of both Cardinal Health and the
Financial Development Program.
Will more international rotations be added in the
future?
Cardinal Health understands the value of having international business
experience. Currently, there are two international rotations
available to program participants. As the Financial Development
Program expands into additional areas of the organization, new
international rotations will be considered.
See the Rotation
opportunities section for more information.
Do
participants experience a language barrier at international rotation
locations? Is there additional support available
for participants
at these locations?
Language barriers are experienced initially; however, analysts
quickly learn to adapt. Many employees at international locations
speak English in addition to their native language. Cardinal
Health also pays for you to take language lessons during the
first two
months of your rotation.
On the job
What are
some of the general responsibilities at a typical rotation? What
skills will I acquire?
Your responsibilities will vary widely depending on the rotation.
Participants are, however, typically responsible for reporting,
processing journal entries, preparing balance sheet reconciliations
and completing other month-end closing duties. You are usually
assigned one or two projects that last the length of the rotation,
along with general day-to-day support for the assigned business. As
a new analyst, for whom will I be working? And with whom will I
work?
You will report to a senior analyst or a manager, many of whom
are program graduates, within your department. On a day-to-day
basis,
you may work with other members of the finance department and employees
from other functions within your business group, such as sales,
marketing and operations, depending on their assigned duties.
How much interaction will I have with other program
participants?
Generally, you will interact with other program participants on
a daily basis. New analysts often eat lunch together — some
even choose to live together. Additionally, participating on
the Financial Development Program’s continuous improvement
teams (Quality of Program, Training and Development, Communications
and Recruiting) is a great way to get involved and meet the other
participants. Quarterly communications meeting attendance is
required and this provides you with a chance to meet program
participants outside your current geographic area.
What is the process for graduating from the program?
Graduates are defined as analysts who complete the 18-24 month
rotational program (three to four assignments). Every May and
November, the program management team will schedule a meeting
with analysts who are eligible to graduate from the Financial
Development Program. At that time, the program management team
will solicit the needs of the business segments' human resources
and update the soon-to-be graduates with biweekly notifications
on open positions. Then, it is up to the graduating analysts
to take ownership of their career and follow standard procedures
for applying for positions.
Benefits
and compensation
Are participants
paid for their work in the program? Is the rate of pay negotiable?
Participants receive fair compensation for their work. The rate
of pay is non-negotiable and is reviewed annually to ensure our
Leadership Development Program is competitive with similar programs
at other companies. Are participants
eligible for health and wellness benefits?
Yes, as full-time employees of Cardinal Health, Leadership Development
participants are eligible for health and wellness benefits. Health
benefits will begin on the first of the month after the analyst
has completed one full calendar month of employment.
Do participants receive vacation time?
Yes, you are eligible for vacation time, prorated for the number
of full months worked within the current calendar year. An employee
must begin working between the first and fifteenth day of the
month for that month to be considered a month of completed service.
You must receive pre-approval from your supervisor before using
vacation or personal days. The official number of vacation days
will be communicated upon hire.
Career and learning opportunities
Does
Cardinal Health hire interns?
The internship program at Cardinal Health is a valuable resource
for filling positions in our development program. Summer interns
are welcome to apply for development programs following college
graduation. Does Cardinal Health
provide tuition reimbursement for higher education?
Cardinal Health encourages all employees to expand their knowledge
and skills through participation in outside educational programs.
Cardinal Health will reimburse eligible employees for tuition upon
successful completion (grade of C or better) of approved courses
at recognized educational institutions. Employees who are scheduled
to work at least 20 hours per week are eligible to participate
in the Tuition Reimbursement Program after their first full month
of service. The Undergraduate Tuition Reimbursement Program, which
can be used to take additional accounting courses, foreign language
classes, and other courses, is reimbursed up to $5,250 per calendar
year. This coursework does not need to be job-related. The Graduate
Tuition Reimbursement Program will cover two classes per semester/quarter
(dependent upon the educational institution’s class schedule)
up to $5,250 per calendar year. Graduate hours need to be approved
by a Cardinal Health officer for reimbursement.
Other than a graduate program, what training opportunities
are available?
Cardinal Health and the Financial Development Program offer several
opportunities for professional development. During your first year
as a Financial Development Program analyst, you will be offered
training in Cardinal Health financial systems and Microsoft® Access
and Excel. Other development opportunities, such as joining a sales
rep on a customer visit or the participation in a physical inventory,
will take place on the job. Your first year is also highlighted
with the chance to develop informal mentoring relationships and
attend lunches with managers from multiple business segments within
Cardinal Health.
Second year Financial Development Program analysts will build on skills learned during the first year. You will also attend training sessions in relation to career path development, presentation, leadership, and interview skills.
In addition, there is an annual Leadership for the Future conference in which you will participate in workshops focusing on business acumen, financial statements, team building, and analytical thinking. During the Leadership for the Future Conference, you will complete case studies focusing less on base technical skills and more on financial measurement and strategic and innovative thinking abilities.
Cardinal Health offers additional training and development opportunities for all employees within the company. You may also enroll in external training courses with your manager's approval or utilize Cardinal Health University, an online interactive tool. Do participants receive performance evaluations?
If so, how often?
Performance evaluations and feedback are an important part of the
Leadership Development Program’s process. As a participant,
you will receive official performance evaluations during our annual
common review process unless otherwise specified. Due to the developmental
nature of the program, performance feedback is given frequently
and program participants should openly receive the feedback as
they strive to improve themselves throughout the program and their
careers.
What career opportunities are available for participants
upon completing the program?
After completing a development program, participants can interview
for positions they are interested in. Because participants will
have worked within several businesses of Cardinal Health, they
have the opportunity to interview for open positions throughout
the company. To aid this effort, the program management team will
provide program graduates with a listing of available job opportunities
when they graduate from the program.
Can I move into roles in other business functions,
such as operations or marketing?
Yes, it is possible to branch into other functions at any level.
Although most program graduates usually wait until they have spent
two to three years in a senior financial analyst position, some
graduates move to positions other than finance upon graduation.
Some rotations even offer cross-functional experiences for you
to explore while in the program.
Are participants guaranteed a permanent position
with Cardinal Health upon completion of the program?
Future job opportunities are based on an individual’s performance
and ability; job placement is never guaranteed. You should keep
in mind that this is an application and interview process.
About
Cardinal Health
What is the environment
at Cardinal Health? Can you describe the company’s culture?
Cardinal Health is a global, dynamic company, and the environment
is professional but relaxed. Our performance-driven, innovative,
collaborative and ethical employees are motivated to succeed in
our fast-paced work environment. The atmosphere, like the dress
code, is business casual. Employees strive to achieve work-life
balance. We work hard, but we value time for family and social
interactions as well. Do
employees usually stay with the company? Are there opportunities
for advancement?
Cardinal Health tends to promote from within the organization before
looking outside to fill an open position. This practice, along
with the company culture, attracts employees who become committed
to Cardinal Health. It is not uncommon to find development program
graduates — especially Finance Development graduates — who
have been with the company for 10, 15 or even 20 years.
